Elizabeth Arden, (1878-1966) was a Canadian professional woman who pioneered skin care and cosmetics. She established the company Elizabeth Arden, which later became a multinational business. Elizabeth Arden was a nurse and later in her life she received a skin and beauty care education. In 1910 she became independent with her own clinic on 5th Avenue in New York. Characteristic of the clinic was the red door, which has since been used for Elizabeth Arden salons all over the world. The door and street name of her first salon have also given names to perfumes such as Red Door and 5th Avenue.
